Running Gauss next to GA4 Coming soon
Add the Gauss snippet without removing GA4. Turn on the GA4 adapter and your existing gtag and dataLayer events appear in Gauss. GA4 identifiers such as client_id and user_id are dropped.
Event names and parameters
Gauss uses GA4 names for events and parameters, so purchase, generate_lead and sign_up work without mapping.
Differences to know about
- A Gauss visitor identifier lasts one day on one site. GA4 distinguishes browsers with the _ga cookie, which expires after 2 years by default.
- By default, Gauss credits a conversion to the channel of the visit in which it happened: without cookies, it does not link visits across days. Linking across days is coming in extended mode, which you turn on separately in the site settings and which works only with the visitor's consent. By default, GA4 looks back 90 days for most key events.
- Gauss does not support user_id, client_id or user properties, by design.
